07 June 2017
It’s June already, which means – hopefully – summer is just around the corner! Bridgwater is a great place any time of year, but it’s particularly great in the sunnier months when there’s lots going on in the local area. Here’s our pick of the top five events going on locally for our people to look forward to.
Sedgemoor Ramblers’ Quantock Walking Festival on 10th and 11th June is coming up and is a fantastic opportunity to get up close with our amazing surroundings. The Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers simply stunning views with the very real possibility of sighting Quantock ponies and elusive red deer. Kate Tennant, our Resourcing and Development Manager, adds: “Early summer is a fabulous time to go walking in the Quantocks; with fabulous views across to Wales and Exmoor there’s no better place to be on a sunny day!”
The Fun Dog Show on Sunday 18th June also made our top five. In support of the National Animal Welfare Trust, the show will see rosettes for the classes, including Best Sausage Catcher, Best Puppy, Best Rescue and Best Family Dog, as well as agility displays, demonstrations and kennel tours. There’ll be a variety of pet and gift stalls as well as a raffle, bouncy castle, BBQ and live music. We’re hoping for some canine winners from Refresco!
It’s only one of the biggest music festivals in the UK – Glastonbury, definitely makes this year’s list – well, for those of us that got our hands on some tickets. Radiohead,Foo Fighters and Ed Sheeran are the headliners but it’s not just about the headliners there are tons of other artists, comedy events and sights to see. One of our team who surely deserves her ticket is HR Business Partner, Emma Doherty: “This is my fourth year volunteering for the 400 strong medical and support team. It’s a fantastic opportunity to be involved behind the scenes and understand the engine behind an iconic festival that over 200,000 people attend and is watched across the globe.”
A bit further afield, but the Yeovilton Air Day on Saturday 8th July is a popular event with fantastic flying displays featuring historic naval aircraft and their modern day counterparts. There are also flight simulators and helicopter flights, available for those of us who are keen to get their feet off the ground!
Finally, Bridgwater Quayside Festival on 29th July 2017 is a new outdoor summer family friendly festival with live music, street arts, street theatre and a variety of entertainments, activities and attractions. We’re particularly looking forward to seeing the Sunken Circus!
It’s set to be a brilliant summer here – and we can’t wait!
